Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends
What an interesting Term 2 we are having. Every day is a new adventure for us all and we are certainly learning new ways of doing things at every level.
Our staff have done an amazing job at providing some unique learning experiences and supporting our students and I feel incredibly proud of the way in which they have embraced their challenging roles over the past week.
I have really appreciated those parents who have posted and commented on the Corinda Parent Connect Facebook page. This has provided us with valuable information and feedback, and we have been able to make amendments in response to what we have learnt through this.
Facilities
The old library has now been demolished and JML was also demolished this week. We have a clean palette for the construction of our amazing new building. We are very excited to finally see this become a reality for our school. The library is now operating out of the Station Masters House while we are under construction and Senior Schooling / Student Study is in T Block next to the Station Masters House. A tight squeeze but all will be worth it.
The A Block refurbishment and renovation is due to begin. There was a slight hold up due to the additional funding required. Now this has been approved we look forward to seeing the refurbishment completed by the end of Term 2.
We have enclosed the back of the Drama space and created an Art Studio to assist during the construction. This then gives us an additional classroom once this is complete. It is a designated wet area and will be used for a variety of purposes. This is a much needed space.
Additional classrooms, ‘The Big 6’, are now operational with two new Science Laboratories and four general learning areas. This will assist with the growth in student numbers we have experienced.
Parent Teacher Interviews
We made the decision to proceed with Parent Teacher Interviews as we know how much our parents value these interactions. As we are unable to conduct face to face meetings, we have provided options for parents to have a phone interview, Zoom meeting or contact via email. There has been a strong take up for this which is encouraging to see.
Please continue to communicate with us as we navigate the next three weeks of Learning@Home and stay healthy and safe.

Online Learning@Home – Ruby Retief
The flexibility of Learning@Home allows me to complete all my lessons at my own pace and I can avoid extra homework by completing my work during the day. The teachers have helped my online learning experience by answering all my concerns and questions quickly. They have made our lessons very clear and engaging to help us stay focused at home. I have maintained my school routine, waking up and having breakfast in time for Home Group and taking regular breaks throughout the day. With the initial connection issues solved, I am enjoying Learning@Home on my own terms and at my own pace.

Online Learning@School – Amaya Tobin
In these challenging times, Learning@School is a relaxing break away from the chaos. By being at school during this time, we have been able to interact with people and teachers that we have never met before, which has made us all get out of our comfort zone. Period 5 has been a pleasant addition to the regular hectic school timetable as we have been able to try many new activities such as cooking, visiting the farm, badminton, volleyball, handball, drama games and private study, which have given us a break away from our computer screens.

Learning@Home – Parent Resources
A reminder to parents and carers that we have established a Corinda Parent Connect Facebook group to engage, share and be socially connected while navigating learning@home.
Our support staff are monitoring posts and making contact when they have further support to offer.
We have developed this to provide an opportunity for everyone to contribute ideas, make suggestions, find solutions and share our learning with each other as we navigate together as a school community.

Pocketnote – Online Tutoring
Pocketnote have developed a piece of tutoring software. The company was founded at the beginning of this year with the intention of creating an easy-to-use online platform connecting tutors and parents. Since then, we have grown to have over 100 verified tutors on the platform, as well as over 100 parents.
Our platform covers Prep to Year 12, where our tutors range from qualified teachers, to University students and professionals. All of our tutors offer online tutoring.
How it works
The parent simply finds the tutor in the particular subject (they have star ratings/ reviews, school attended, background etc), the tutor creates an event, the parent accepts the event and payment is processed at the completion of the event.
What is the problem you are addressing?
- We believe that there isn't an easy to use platform connecting private tutors and students.
- We want to completely remove the disconnect between random third parties and the classroom. Our software connects the school, the teacher, the parent, the student and the tutor in one place.
We also have included a function to ensure that when searching through our tutors, you can search by school. We understand that alumni tutoring current tutors is preferred. Feel free to visit our site here and sign up as a Parent to have a browse.
