Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends,
Our Year 12 students have nearly completed their final exams, with only several subjects left. What a long three weeks it has been for our Year 12s. They are nearly there. We are looking forward to celebrations this week, as I am sure they are too.
Our Year 12 Graduation Ceremony will be held at Nissan Arena this Friday 18 November. This is the one time of the year where our whole school stops to acknowledge the graduating class. It is an expectation that all students are in attendance in support of this significant milestone and to join in the celebration of the students in their Home Group. It is an exciting event that should be celebrated by our whole school community and we are once again looking forward to making this a memorable day for our Year 12 students.
Last week the Learning Environments Australasia Queensland Awards were announced and I am pleased to share that Corinda State High School won an award for the Design and Architecture of our Research and Innovation Centre. This was shared with architects, Gray Puksand and our school. This building is the result of a true collaboration, designed to meet the needs of the next generation of learners.

Architect Kevin Myles working with Year 8 students
A lot of research and consultation was undertaken in the design of our amazing facility and we are truly grateful to be able to see our students enjoying these amazing facilities each day. The partnership we have developed with these architects has continued and this week they worked with our students in class as part of their Humanities curriculum on urban design. Our students were very engaged in the simulation with experts from the field and we really appreciate the investment made by Gray Puksand.

School leaders recognised in news feature
Our 2022 School Captains have been recognised in a Quest Newspapers leadership feature alongside peers from across Queensland.
Captains Micaela Anstey and Jayden Lavatai have shared their hopes and career aspirations, as well as their bright vision for the future. Below you’ll find a link to the article in full, but we’ve pulled out some inspiring words from the students.
“I really enjoy getting to work and achieve goals alongside other students and staff. The process of forming new, functioning, and enjoyable events for students has been exciting and inspiring. Being a part of the school’s diverse leadership team has been a privilege and a wonderful opportunity to grow.” – Micaela Anstey
“My biggest piece of advice I'd give for students going into their senior year in 2023, is to live with no regrets. Don’t regret overworking yourself, and instead, take moments for you - do something you enjoy, do something new, or just take a breather from what can be a stressful year.” – Jayden Lavatai
We think they are stirring words, and we wish both students all the best for their future ambitions of studying at one of our fantastic Brisbane universities. We also thank Quest Newspapers for inviting Corinda State High School to be part of the feature.

Corinda HPE teacher receives top honour
A big round of applause must go to Corinda HPE teacher and football coach Joe Duckworth, who was recently named Football Queensland’s National Premier Leagues’ (NPL) Men’s Player of the Year. This accolade is the highest achievement a footballer can achieve in Queensland and comes off the back of Mr Duckworth’s team winning the Men’s NPL this year.
There is no doubt Mr Duckworth is all about the team. He brings a team player mentality to Corinda and his students, particularly in the FEX program are thriving on and off the pitch. We are very grateful for all that you bring to Corinda, Mr Duckworth.

FEX students show excellence at First Nations meet
Two of Corinda’s outstanding FEX students represented their culture in the First Nations Indigenous Football Festival last weekend, with their team winning the Youth Division Boys bracket. Year 8 student Eyor and Year 10 student Yabsirra were selected for the competition, which sees teams and First Nation cultures from all over Australia play off once a year. At the meet the students were lucky enough to meet former Brazilian football player “Mineiro”, and also see Travis Dodd, the first indigenous player to score a goal in the Socceroos.
Head of Football Excellence Vaughan Hogan recognised Eyor and Yabsirra as some of his most excellent FEX students for their model behaviour and remarkable effort, and said they were also leaders within their House group as well. Well done!

Special visitors tour Corinda’s Smart Farm
Corinda recently welcomed Senator for Queensland, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and Minister for Energy Management Murray Watt MP, and Federal Member for Moreton Graham Perrett MP, to learn about AgTech innovation at our Smart Farm.
Mr Watt enjoyed talking with our Year 10 students about future pathways in agriculture and what Corinda is providing to ensure they have access to these opportunities.
We sincerely thank both MPs for taking such an interest in what we’re doing here at Corinda, and sharing in our visions for the future.

Tennis excursion has ambitions soaring
Tennis players from Years 7-10 recently enjoyed an excursion to the Queensland Tennis Centre at Tennyson, which included drills in the famous Pat Rafter Arena.
Students completed physical testing with a performance physio using the latest equipment, and then enjoyed a presentation from Play and Stay USA on college scholarships in the USA. This was followed by match play drills and group tennis drills.
It was an exciting prelude to the four state-of-the-art purpose-built courts which will soon be completed on Corinda grounds. There’s no doubt 2023 will bring in a new era of tennis to our school!

Have you considered becoming a Homestay host?
We have a long and rich tradition of having international students' study at our school and live with local families as part of the Education Queensland International (EQI) International Student Program.
As international borders are now open, we are looking for families to join our Homestay providers network and host one of our international students. We welcome students from countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Germany and Italy, and the study duration can range from one term to five years. To be selected as an EQI-approved Homestay Provider, you must meet certain criteria.
To discuss homestay opportunities at Corinda, please contact Homestay Coordinator Louise Fallis lfall32@eq.edu.au.
Are you missing something?
With the end of term fast approaching, it’s a timely reminder to make sure all clothing and personal items are clearly named so misplaced items be easily reclaimed. The following items have been added to our lost property in recent weeks. Do you know who they belong to?
