Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to Term 4, as we prepare for the many and varied celebrations in the coming weeks. Term 3 finished on a very positive note with Carnivale, and our students really enjoyed the activities and atmosphere that was created. A great day was had by all! Our Year 12 leaders are to be congratulated for their efforts in organising and planning the day.
Our Year 12 students are very busy preparing for their external exams. Next Friday we will be hosting a formal luncheon to give final messages in preparation for their externals the following week. We have a very inspirational guest speaker attending, who will give them some key messages to take into their exams. It will be a nice way to conclude their formal classes and wish them well in the coming weeks of assessment. Our thoughts will be with our Year 12 students as they sit their final exams and we do wish them all the very best. We are very confident they are approaching their exams very well prepared.
Our Year 11 students have now completed units 1 and 2 and are set to begin units 3 and 4. As we celebrate this juncture and to prepare them for what is ahead, we have a well-planned week of leadership immersion, which will set them up as the Seniors of our school for 2023. This will culminate in their semi-formal event, an exciting milestone for our Year 11 students, to which I am very much looking forward. I hope to see you all at the upcoming events in the coming weeks.

Some of our best
Bright future for aspiring engineer
Year 11 student Jenny Nguyen recently took part in a three-day UQ engineering holiday program to further familiarise herself with her future career path. In her own words, she describes how beneficial the event was:
“I attended the Spring into Engineering event hosted by Women in Engineering at UQ with 40 other wonderful peers over the holidays. In short, it was the best program that I've ever experienced. The event was packed with in-depth hands-on activities, learning opportunities, and FUN that any aspiring STEM student could ask for. Both the Powerlink and UQ staffs and student leaders went above and beyond in creating a welcoming atmosphere, taking care of us and making sure that all of our questions and needs were met. I enjoyed myself so much that I was awarded with the "most engaged" prize. To any girls that are considering a career in STEM, partaking this program is the best thing you can do for yourself. Through this experience, not only that I developed strong friendships with like-minded women, I also felt empowered, motivated and secure in what I have chosen to study post high school”.
We wish we could bottle your enthusiasm, Jenny!
Medal winners at Brisbane Badminton event
Eight Corinda students from across Years 9-12 recently competed at the 2022 Brisbane Schools Team Event for the Brisbane Badminton Association, netting some very pleasing results.
Corinda students won both the Boys team and Mixed team events, competing against other Brisbane schools.
The winning Boys team consisted of: Rezwan (Year 11), Dean (12), and Tim (11). The winning Mixed Team consisted of: Tim, Rezwan, Cindy, and Queendy (all 11).
Our other participating students should also be commended on their admirable efforts: Andy (9), Michelle (12), and May (9).

Dance crew tours Sydney
Congratulations to our dance team who met success during their trip to Sydney over the school holidays. Corinda’s Dance Crew are now Australian champions, having won the National Championship for Hip-Hop, while Senior Troupe achieved 2nd for Jazz and 4th for Lyrical - an equally outstanding achievement.
Along with these amazing results, our students also enjoyed workshops with industry professionals, and seeing the sights of Sydney.

Futsal all-stars go head-to-head at titles
Our most talented futsal players put their best foot forward at the National School Championships for Futsal over the school holidays at Nissan Arena. Teams from all over Australia (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, SA, WA & TAS) competed in the competition. Corinda was represented by eight students across various QLD city teams.
The students competing were Layla (Year 9), Lelima (9), Ruby (9), Lochie (10), Alyssa (10), Rhiannon (10), Piper (12), and Micaela (12).
Congratulations to all participants! A special mention must go to Piper who made the Australian All-Stars team for the 19s, and Alyssa and Ruby who made the All-Stars team for the 15s.
Instrumental musicians dazzle audiences
Congratulations to cellist Eloise and tubist Tahu, who proudly represented Corinda at the recent State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
Both Eloise and Tahu are studying AMEB grade 7 level in their respective instruments and were selected from a field of high calibre musicians from far and wide. They completed three full days of rehearsals, before concerts were held to showcase the remarkable talents of students, with Eloise performing with the Sir Charles Mackerras String Orchestra and Tahu with the Graham Lloyd Wind Orchestra. Music to our ears - well done!
Leadership skills nurtured at UQ workshop
Five of Corinda’s future leaders were recently selected to attend a Global Competence through Leadership workshop at the The University of Queensland in partnership with DE International. Eloise, Olivia, Jenny, Winta, and Sara were gifted the coveted opportunity to work alongside industry experts to learn valuable lessons about their personal strengths and developing innovative skills and visions in a leadership context.
Year 11 student Olivia said “We completed three sessions run by university professors and lecturers who explained the psychology of leadership, and the concept of embracing the highest self, as well as the importance of creating actionable plans to real life problems. We practiced planning business approaches to solving sustainability and societal issues in a team setting and got the opportunity to meet and interact with other like-minded students.” Well done team, we expect big things from you!
Ice skater smashes personal best
Congratulations to Year 9 student Aditya Nghiem who competed at the National Ice Speed Skating competition during the school holidays. Beating his personal best time, Aditya’s quick, explosive start led him to a 7th place finish against international skaters from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and New Zealand.

Lost Property at the Student Payments office is overflowing with apparel and equipment. If you recognise any of the items pictured, please email lostproperty@corindashs.eq.edu.au
Please make sure all clothing worn at school or on school excursions as well as personal supplies are named so that misplaced items be easily reclaimed. If items are labelled, staff will email students and parents to arrange a time to collect items. As per our Lost Property Policy, all lost property uniforms will be absorbed into loan items at the end of each term.

Parking around our school
With 2,000 students making their way into school each day, there’s no denying the streets around Corinda can become quite busy, which impacts on our neighbours. A timely reminder for all school families and students to please be considerate of those who choose to live in our lovely suburb by not parking across, or too close to the edge of, driveways. It’s a big inconvenience to residents if they cannot get out of their own homes during the school day because someone has squeezed into a tight space. We encourage you to please do an extra loop and park a little further away if necessary. Your consideration is appreciated by all.
Carnivale wrap up
Thank you to everyone, in particular our Student Leaders, who worked hard to make our annual Corinda Carnivale day such a success at the end of Term 3. The food trucks, colour run, talent show, and house activities were all well received by students, and feedback was that it was an excellent way to celebrate the end of another busy term.

Farm nursery busy with new additions
Spring is here, and that means plenty of new additions to the Corinda family. We've been very lucky to welcome a number of babies on the farm in the past weeks, to the delight of our students. One lucky goat kid even received the royal treatment as he was carried around the Administration Office to meet the team.

Youth art competition
The #SeaToSource Sea the Change: Youth Art Competition is the perfect chance for students to have some fun, get innovative and share their passion for marine life and a pollution-free world.
The challenge? They are calling on students to get creative by making either an artwork, poster, or video either by themselves or as a class. The project will demonstrate how a common ocean litter item could be repurposed or reinvented, or how others in the community can be inspired to change their usage of these items, to create positive change for our incredible marine life.
See the flyer for more information.
