Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends,
As we pass the midway point of term 2, our students are very much immersed in school routine, preparing for assignment writing and upcoming assessment. Our Year 11 students have just completed their exam block for their Unit 1 studies. The extra-curricular program is back in full swing with students involved in music, dance, sport and community activities. It is great to see all these opportunities presenting once again.
This Thursday marked National Sorry Day and it afforded us the opportunity for our Indigenous Captains, Emelia and Trinity (pictured below) to participate in the community acknowledgement – of the strength of Stolen Generations survivors. The annual Sorry Day Ceremony was hosted by the Benarrawa Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Solidarity Group. We continue to reflect on what we can do through our leadership in the community to continue this healing process for our people and our nation. Our students made us very proud as they represented our school at this event. National Reconciliation Week, which runs from 27 May to 3 June, has the theme #BeBraveMakeChange. It challenges us all to embrace actions in our daily lives that advocate for a just and equal society for all Australians.
Our Corinda Vanguard Drumline performed this week as the opening act at the Queensland State Secondary Principals Conference. Performing to a room full of Principals was quite a daunting task, but in true form, our students exceeded all expectations and impressed their audience. One of our Year 12 students also opened the conference by leading the Acknowledgement of Country.
Our Dance students were presented with a very exciting opportunity this week, when our school was chosen to host a surprise performance by the hip-hop mega dance crew The Royal Family from New Zealand. Our students were filled with excitement when they found out they were being provided with this special treat. Their faces were beaming and it was wonderful to see. Special thanks to our passionate and dedicated Dance teachers for creating this opportunity!
There is a lot of energy in our school today as our Year 12 Leaders conduct activities in support of Project Pink for breast cancer research. It is wonderful once again to see our students taking the initiative to support such a worthy cause.
Our school is alive with energy and activity and it is great to see again!

The Six Houses - One Family spirit was well and truly alive thanks to Kabul!

Culinary Excellence makes the edible incredible
Our wonderful student cake decorators won 2nd and 3rd place ribbons at the recent Brookfield Show! There were also lots of High Commended entries awarded to our Year 9 Culinary Excellence students’ Minion-themed cakes.
As part of “Designing Deserts”, a brand-new unit designed by Ms Rowe, the theme of Minions was chosen to allow students to learn a range of introductory cake decorating skills whilst enabling them to showcase their creative flair through designing their own cake.
Patience, accuracy, time management, team work and creativity were tested in the lead up to finalising these gorgeous cakes. Big thanks to Renee Hurley of Cakes by Renee for assisting students with their cake decorating skills.

Finance FAQs
The payments office located behind school reception is one of the busiest hubs at Corinda. To assist in processing your enquiries quickly, here are some of the most common questions asked at the Payments office which is open from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm each school day.
Q: Can I pay over the phone?
A: Unfortunately, no. The Department does not support phone payments at this time. However, there is a BPOINT 1300 number which will allow you to do this. Please note, you will need a copy of your tax invoice to quote required details. The phone number can be found at the bottom of your tax invoice.
Q: Why am I receiving a tax invoice for fees I have already paid?
A: When you make a payment in advance this is amount is placed on your students account as a credit. We are then required to produce a tax invoice which creates an outstanding balance. These two transactions are then matched together in order to finalise the payment. This is why you may receive a tax invoice after making payment.
Q: Why am I receiving a statement of accounts when I am on a payment plan?
A: Statements of account are issued automatically each month so you are aware of your outstanding payments. If you are on a payment plan, this can help you track your ongoing payments.
Q: Why have I received a tax invoice for an excursion my child is not attending?
A: All students who are invited to go on an excursion are invoiced ready to receive payment. After the excursion has occurred our office checks who did not attend and also did not make payment. These unpaid invoices are then removed from the student’s account.

The gift of dance!
The hip-hop mega dance crew The Royal Family (RF) from New Zealand has won countless championships and danced for everyone from Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber and now Corinda State High School’s Senior Troupe and Crew!
The world-famous dancers made a surprise visit this week after Dance teacher Ms Jodi Hansford nominated students in the RF Biggest Fan in Australia competition. As part of her winning nomination, Ms Hansford said “They have had such ups and downs in the last two years with all their performances getting cancelled, workshops being cancelled yet they have been so resilient throughout it all and still turn up every lesson smiling and working as a team. They are all such huge fans of you and I know some of them may not be able to afford to come and see your show.” In emotional scenes, all students in attendance received a complimentary ticket to the Brisbane show of the RF Australian Tour.

Six Houses set to compete at Athletics Carnival
To mark the end of term 2, all students will gather to compete at the annual Athletics Carnival on Friday 24 June. All students are expected to attend and vie for House points across a range of athletics.
Students wishing to nominate for the Junior and Senior Winter Gala Days (Districts) at the carnival, should have submitted their nominations via the forms that were emailed by the HPE department last week. Please direct all enquiries to Miss Charlotte Andrews at candr201@eq.edu.au.
