Executive Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Friends

What a wonderful week of celebration we had last week. Our Year 12 students have graduated and made us all very proud. They are to be congratulated for the way in which they conducted themselves at their Graduation Ball and at the ceremony last Friday. Both events were very special and it was great to see our students coming together and enjoying their final school events.

We will be eagerly awaiting their ATAR results and have every confidence that these will also make us very proud. Over the weekend we were informed that twelve students have already received early offers to Universities.

I would like to congratulate those Year 12 students who received special awards at the Graduation Ceremony last Friday. Some amazing achievements and no doubt some very bright futures ahead for our students.

Music in the Night & Instrumental News

It was wonderful to be able to once again host Music in the Night. It seems so long since we have been able to conduct events like this. Great to see so many parents supporting the event and enjoying the amazing talents of our young musicians. What a great night of celebration. Our Instrumental Music staff are to be congratulated for their efforts.

After a team effort to arrange, film, and edit an audition for Year 10 student Tahlia Nelson-Musgrave entering the Young Conservatorium Program for 2022, she has been accepted for not just one, but three ensembles for next year’s prestigious course. Due to the audition board being highly impressed with her advanced level of talent, she has been awarded a scholarship to perform as a percussionist in the Young Conservatorium Philharmonic Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble; this is a great achievement, especially due to the highly competitive push of places between students from all Queensland (state and private) schools just to get into this program.

Nine of our drumline students were also on national television this weekend in the Creative Generation 2021: The Entertainer telecast on Channel 10. These students were Sinead, Tahu, Jaqueline, Tasman, Jas, Amy, Vini, Tahlia and Alex. Big Shout out to Jacob Hicks!

Our Instrumental Music program goes from strength to strength and the number of students participating in this program continues to grow. It is great to see so many students take up this wonderful opportunity to participate in an ensemble and develop their musical skills.

Traffic Issues

Last week the Brisbane City Council joined our Adopt a Cop – Senior Constable Lisa Easton to observe the traffic issues around our school. We continue to advocate for designated drop off zones and traffic control around the school.

This Friday we farewell our Year 10 and 11 students. I am sure they are looking forward to a well-earned break. Our Year 11 students will be completing block exams at the end of this week and our Year 10 students are out on Active Volunteering or completing their theory modules. They will finish their week with a trip to Dreamworld.

Corinda Senior named amongst SEQ’s highest achieving Year 12 students

On the eve of last week’s Graduation ceremony, Corinda student and future innovator Paul Chemonges-Nielsen was named one of Southeast Queensland’s highest achieving Year 12 students in Quest News.

Paul demonstrated a range of leadership attributes in both Academics and overall wellbeing. Paul was an active member of the before school exercise group supporting new students when they joined. Through his own self-reflection he has seen the importance of a healthy body and healthy mind, which led Paul to participate in many Gala days and represent the school at district level with some great results.

Academically Paul managed to balance his active life with a strong focus on his future STEM based goals. Paul is likely to have one of the top academic results this year. Paul went into his external exams with results above 90% in Chemistry, Specialist Maths, Maths Methods, Physics as well as continuing his balanced education with over 90% in Japanese as well.

Paul’s future will see him working in the STEM field researching and innovating in discoveries yet to be found.

Early release of Year 12 results

For the first time, the QCAA will release final subject results in student learning accounts a day early this year on Friday 17 December from 9.00 am.

As well as checking their final subject results, students can get fast access to their Senior Statement, Queensland Certificate of Education or Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement. Like last year, the QCAA won’t be sending hard copies to students because the electronic copies are official. Students can download and print them at home or give electronic (PDF) copies to potential employers or further studies providers.

Students can access their learning account via the Student Portal on the myQCE website. They’ll need their 10-digit LUI the first time they register. For more information visit the MyQCE website.

A big thank you to all who donated to Wesley Mission Queensland’s annual fundraising event, the Red Bag Appeal. With 109 Red Bags filled, Corinda’s six Houses- Kabul, Bunar, Dibbil, Moori, Pirri and Yarraman, all strongly supported this wonderful cause which aims to bring joy and hope to those doing it tough at Christmas time by encouraging the community to give the gift of a Red Bag full of groceries, decorations and toys. We hope our local families have a Merry Christmas.
