Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and friends
Term 4 has arrived and we are on the home stretch. As usual our students have taken the challenges of COVID in their stride and are complying with mask regulations. It is a welcomed relief to be able to allow students to remove masks while seated in classrooms.
Our Year 11 and 12 students are at significant junctures in their senior studies as our Year 12 students have their final classroom lessons this week and prepare for their external exams. Meanwhile our Year 11 students will be undertaking some leadership activities next week as part of their transition to Year 12 studies. Their serious work is about to begin.
I am excited to share with our school community the amazing support programs and tutorials our staff have organised for our Year 12 students over the next few weeks to ensure our students have access to targeted revisiting of course work and concepts. A full tutorial program has been developed for Year 12 students and in addition to this we are opening our school library during the weekends. Staff from various subject disciplines have volunteered their time to be at school to support students should they wish to come into school to study in the library.
We understand that some students appreciate access to a quiet space away from distractions where they can focus and better prepare. Hopefully this will allow students to be thoroughly prepared for their external exams. The opening times and staff availability are outlined below:
Saturday 30 October 9:00am – 3:00pm
Saturday 6 November 9:00am – 3:00pm
It is great to be able to resume some of our special Term 4 events once again. I look forward to enjoying a wonderful evening of Dance this Friday as we hold our annual Dance Night. Our talented and enthusiastic students are very excited to once again be able to take to the stage.

Executive Principal

Dance Night 2021
Support the ARTS and join us at the Corinda State High School Dance Night 2021 tonight! Our amazingly talented dancers return to the stage after recent wins at the DanceLife Unite online competition and Future Stars Dance Finals held last weekend on the Gold Coast. Dance Excellence superstar Tahnaya Noonan won a haul of Future Stars medals including 2nd National Champion 13 Years Jazz while our Senior Troupe bagged three first place wins at DanceLife Unite.
Corinda’s Dance teachers Mrs Boddice, Miss Nothling, Mr Papinniemi and Ms Hansford are extremely proud of the hard work and commitment our dancers have put in this year. Although we were not able to attend all planned Eisteddfods, we took the opportunity of entering an online competition and the students achieved outstanding results.
Dance Night 2021 will be a vibrant showcase of our award-winning Excellence, Troupe and Crew dancers across years 7-12 so come along and prepare to be entertained! $15 tickets available at the link below. See you there!

Congratulations to Corinda State High student Cameron Dugdell who spent some of his school holidays competing in the Queensland School Rowing Championship Regatta held on the mighty Fitzroy River in Rockhampton. The awesome event attracts hundreds of competitors and Cameron did Corinda proud placing 4th in the Inter-Regional U17 boys quad and he also made semi-finals in the Year 9 Singles event. Well done Cameron!

Year 7 Girls football crowned Met Finals Champions
Our Year 7 Girls football team were crowned Metropolitan Finals champions after winning their Grand Final against Mansfield State High School at the end of Term 3. After a slow start to the game, the girls fought hard and brought the game under control with goals scored by Alexandra, Hanna, Prinnie, Georgina and Montana to end the game with a big winning margin. Fantastic result for the girls and for our school. Well done!

Reimaging racing during COVID
The green wheels were spinning late last term when the Corinda Racing Team and their Human Powered Vehicles hit the Ipswich Cycle Pathway. After a year of cancelled competitions, our brand-new team of riders created their own 3 ½ hour competition which pitted all riders against each other. Teams of eight riders needed to complete as many laps as they could in the specified timeframe. Our students are taught riding skills, teamwork, bike maintenance, fitness and nutrition and we are always on the lookout for new team members.

Springtime at the Farm
The change of season heralds the arrival of many springtime babies at our Farm. At last count, we’ve welcomed 17 lambs and three gorgeous goat kids. Not to be outdone by our beautiful baby animals, the plants on the Farm have burst into bloom. We will have a big herb and clearance sale of plants towards the end of term to clean out the greenhouse for the summer holidays. Watch this space!

Junior Percussion hosts Corinda Primary at music open house
Last term we welcomed future percussionists from neighbouring Corinda State Primary School who attended a mentoring workshop with our Junior Percussion Ensemble. Corinda’s Mr Hicks organises these days to allow our youngest and brightest to perform music with musicians that have advanced through our nationally renowned Arts Instrumental Program, as well as provide a seamless and fun pathway for students making the progression from junior to senior school.
The students had so much fun learning and performing music from their favourite video games, popular songs, as well as partaking in activities designed to nurture their skills, coordination, and most importantly, their self-confidence.
Corinda extends its long association with a national icon
Did you know there are over 1000 types of wattle (acacia) in Australia? Australia’s national emblem and star of our school crest, the golden wattle was celebrated at Corinda on National Wattle Day on 1 September. Led by teacher Anet Beilby, Humanities students participated in an array of activities including quick wattle facts, quizzes and prizes that captured the celebrations that have so much importance to our Australian history, culture and spirit.
Real world connections through STEM incursion
Thank you to Melissa Ness, Assistant Professor of Astronomy at Columbia University and Megan Packer, Principal Engineer at Cross River Rail for inspiring our EDT students in Years 7 – 9 at a recent STEM presentation held at Corinda. A student who attended wrote after the presentation, “I personally enjoyed it immensely and hope these opportunities will happen again. The Year 7, 8 and 9 EDT group will take away a lot from this incursion as it gives us insight into how engineering and design skills play out in jobs and in the real world, with buildings and roads all around us. As well as whilst in space and models to data to prove a theory and to show proof. In the end it was a great experience.”

Art Excellence Students' Art Exhibition
Come along and check out the diverse range of artworks by Corinda State High’s Art Excellence students. Produced in our newly refurbished bright and airy art studios, student’s work on show will range from Years 7 to 9.

Have you lost a school jumper?
As we enter our final Term of learning, it’s an important and timely reminder to make sure all clothing worn at school or on school excursions as well as personal supplies such as pencil cases are named so that misplaced items be easily reclaimed.
Overdue notices from the Library
Welcome back to Term 4 in the Library. We are making a concerted effort to round up all overdue books, magazines and MicroBits. Notices have been emailed and long-term overdue items (more than 70 days overdue) will be invoiced in the coming weeks. If you are unsure about overdue items, please check your student emails. Students are also welcome to visit the Library to check with Mrs Perrers. We also ask that any class novels, plays or textbooks that are not being used this term, be returned as soon as possible so we can have them ready for 2022.
