Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and friends
Spring has sprung… It is hard to believe that it is now spring and we look forward to the warmer weather approaching. This week our students conducted a Multicultural Expose after school on Thursday. It is great to see the students taking charge of such a special celebration and embracing the many different cultures in our school community. I have enjoyed observing our students rehearsing their performances after school, passionate about sharing their cultural traditions. Congratulations to all students involved and thank you for making this a special part of our school calendar.
School Captain Selection Process 2022
We are currently in the middle of the School Captain selection process for 2022. It is hard to believe we are already at this point of the year. So far, our students have submitted an application, recorded their speeches for viewing in Home Group and attended interviews with the panel. I wish our applicants all the very best for the process and congratulate them for taking the initiative to be considered for this honour.
Students in Cars
There has been quite a bit of talk on Community Facebook pages about students in cars. It is important that we consider those who live around the school and their ongoing concerns with traffic and parking. Students who drive cars are required to submit paperwork to the school, registering their car and the passengers in the car. This process has been in place for many years and we do this so that we can identify students and cars if any issues arise. We also like to have this information should any unfortunate incidents occur. If your student drives a car to school, please ensure they have submitted this form to the administration. It would also be appreciated if you have a discussion with them about parking, behaviour in cars and responsibilities they have as a licensed driver.
Recently we have had talks with students at school conducted by our local Police Officer outlining expectations. The Deputy Principals and myself have also monitored the areas where students have parked and talked with individual students about their expectations when driving and parking around the school precinct.
As you are probably aware, there is limited space during drop off and pick up time and the surrounding streets are very congested. It is important that we also consider the impact this has on local residents and pedestrians. Your support with this would be greatly appreciated.
Carnivale – is coming…
Last year we conducted a very successful Carnivale day for our students. “If we cannot go to the Ekka… then we will bring the Ekka to us!” We will be conducting Carnivale again this year on the last day of term here at Corinda. This is a student led event, consisting of rides, house activities and food vans. We had a wonderful day last year and hope to once again enjoy the day with our staff and students in the ‘Carnivale’ spirit!

Some of our best
Engaging our Communities
Our wonderful AUG Student Services hosted an information session with our Year 12 International students and representatives from Griffith University, UQ and QUT whose shared innovative global focus and real-world relevance align with our school’s strategic direction.
While far away from home and loved ones, our International students are having to navigate through a complex and uncertain world when making future decisions. We wish each student all the best and we will continue to support them throughout the remainder of this year.
FUN FACT: Of the 233 International students currently attending a state high school in Queensland, 71 study here at Corinda!

Ticks under the microscope in Parasitology Masterclass
Last week, a small group of year 9 Agricultural Technology students began their ‘Masterclass’ in Parasitology. The session kicked off with an investigation into the effect ticks have on cattle health and the negative impact this can have in terms of lost production and decreased profits. Dr Ali Raza, from the Queesland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation based at the University of Queensland, then guided the students through a tick dissection, where students examined the ticks’ sucking mouth piece, salivary glands and reproductive organs under a microscope. This gave students a new insight as to why ticks are such damaging parasites.
