Executive Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and friends

Once again, we find ourselves in lockdown, learning from home. Thank you so much for your patience and support as we quickly had to respond to the snap lockdown. This outbreak as you know is just a little bit too close for comfort. We have had low numbers of students at school which we have really appreciated given the threat of the Delta strain and its impact on young people. It also allows us to ensure we are 100% focused on delivering effective online lessons with our students.

This time we are able to enable more interaction through Microsoft Teams and we have witnessed some very effective lessons being delivered online. While not completely ideal, it is great that teachers can check in with students and interact with them, checking for understanding and answering questions.

A piece of comfort for our students while in lockdown is the companionship provided by the Tokyo Olympics coverage. The strength and resilience of our athletes in what has been the most isolated event in history presents reassurance for our students that there are some people out there drawing on all their strength and resilience and still giving 100%. What wonderful role models our students have right now as they navigate lockdown and isolation.

On a more positive note, the lockdown has enabled us to complete some valuable facilities upgrades. We have just installed four new refrigerated water bubblers – complete with bottle fillers. These have replaced the old taps that hardly worked and had no refrigeration. This will be a welcomed addition in the summer months for students.

We are also erecting a range of new outdoor tables and seating for the students in a variety of areas across the school. They will certainly add colour and shape while providing more space for students to sit and eat their lunch or collaborate. Hopefully a nice surprise for the students on their return to school.

Our thoughts are with all those school communities and families that have been impacted by this recent outbreak and are currently in quarantine.

Please stay home, stay safe and thank you to all those parents, carers and community members out there in essential service roles working to support the health and wellbeing of our community.

Executive Principal

First lamb of the season!

Last weekend we were excited to welcome our first lamb for the year. He was born on Sunday at Oxley Common. Both mum and the lamb have been relocated back to our school farm along with all the other pregnant sheep. We expect that we will have between 20-30 lambs born in the next couple of months and are also expecting some goats to birth their kids soon too!

Here to support you!

If students or parents would like to make an appointment to speak with the School Based Youth Health Nurse during remote learning, please email the nurse at nurse.corinda@health.qld.gov.au.
