Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and friends
What a wonderful week of celebrations we had as we farewelled and celebrated our Seniors for 2020. It was such a fantastic evening at Movie World – although not quite the Greek Club, our students had a wonderful evening together. They looked so sophisticated and celebrated in style. The bus trip home was a lot of fun with the students.
Of course our official Graduation Ceremony at the Queensland Tennis Centre was amazing and so special for our students and their families. Although very challenging implementing COVID safe plans and restrictions we still managed to celebrate as a school community and farewell our Seniors in memorable style. I felt so very proud of our students as they presented for the final time.
Congratulations to our special award recipients:
Principal’s Award for Service to the School – Hannah Hall-Young
Caltex All Rounder Award – Hannah Hall-Young
RSL Citizenship Award – Tabitha Potts
ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award – Mariana Belandria
Rotary VET Award – Max Dale
VET Industry Award – Phoebe Bryson
UQ Achievement Award – Nina Tieu
USQ Excellence Award – Jemima Noller
ADF Future Innovators Award – Ankit Singh
This week our year 10 students are undertaking their Active Volunteering in the community. This is certainly a valuable part of their learning as they develop life skills, communication and problem solving skills highly valued by all employers.
This Friday we farewell our year 10 and 11 students for the year. I am sure they are all ready for a rest after what has been a year like no other. We have some special celebrations for them next week with our year 11 social event being conducted at the Comedy Club and the year 10 students spending a day at Dreamworld. A nice way to finish the year.
Our junior students are still completing end of term assessment and it is important that they are focussed and maintain routines. Your support at home to ensure they are organised and well prepared for assessment is very much appreciated.

Graduation Ball
On Wednesday 18 November our year 12 students celebrated the completion of their schooling at their Graduation Ball at Movie World. They all looked like superstars as they walked the red carpet and posed for photos. Those who were game took on the DC Rivals Hypercoaster and Batwing Spaceshot. After a group photo under the giant Christmas tree, Wonder Women escorted everyone to the Stars Pavilion for dinner. During dinner, the Joker kidnapped Ms Jamieson but thankfully Batman saved the day and even stayed for a photo opportunity with the Batmobile. Thankfully, COVID restrictions were lifted just in time for our students (and teachers) to burn up the dancefloor! Overall it was a fantastic evening for the graduating class of 2020, especially considering it was not looking possible earlier in the year! We look forward to reminiscing when we see the professional photos, which will be available soon.

Graduation Ceremony
A day that many of our Year 12s have looked forward to since first stepping through the school gates finally arrived last Friday 20 November. In a year where “everything was cancelled” the Graduation Ceremony went ahead and was certainly one to remember.
Our theme this year, “The Superhero in You” has been very relevant to the challenges our Senior cohort faced this year. This group of year 12s really have been the cohort of ‘firsts’ in Queensland education. They were the first full Prep year, the first Year 7s to be enrolled in high school, the first of the new ATAR external exam system, and the first year 12 cohort to adapt to online learning and complete school during the ongoing challenges of a global pandemic. What a resilient bunch!
We were fortunate enough to host our Graduation Ceremony at the Queensland Tennis Centre in Tennyson, which allowed us to accommodate thousands of guests to give our graduating class a tremendous send off. Our Year 12s all have their unique stories and achievements, and they will be a year group that the Corinda community will never forget. We wish them well for their bright futures!

Fun Sock Wednesday
Corinda State High School is excited to be making a change in the world!
Our school is taking part in our global community by raising money for solar panels for a school in Fiji without electricity. This school, in return, commits to collecting sea rubbish that washes up on their beaches each day.
On Wednesday, students impressed each other with their conversation starter selections of socks – so many bright colours, soccer team representation and interesting choices, all making a difference. This is the beginning of a whole school commitment and focus to making the world a better place. By working together, the student council is excited to host more fundraising opportunities in the coming year.
