Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends
Well, we all survived a very unique and challenging term 2. What a relief to be able to see the end of this term and take a breath while we ‘reset’ for a fresh new term. Our parents, staff and students are to be commended for all their efforts over the past 10 weeks.
It is great to see so many students making use of the additional playground space during lunch breaks. With the split breaks for junior and senior students, there are a lot more students enjoying the outdoors making use of the courts and ovals. While the split breaks have taken some getting used to, there is certainly a noticeable difference of students in the playground and in the tuckshop lines.
We will continue to adhere to the current timetable and routines to address physical distancing in the school. School sport is set to return in term 3 and I am sure our students will welcome the return of sport. Let’s hope we continue to progress with the easing of restrictions across Queensland.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our school community for all your support, understanding and patience over the past term. I do hope you can take the time to relax and enjoy some of the destinations we can now appreciate here in Queensland.
Stay safe and healthy.
Helen Jamieson
Executive Principal

Some of our best
Keeping Active with Corinda
During isolation two of our senior students, Selu Maama and Christina Amajouyi started a 25km challenge as a way to stay active and keep in touch with their peers. Over 50 students answered the call and decided to participate in the challenge. The challenge was spread across 30 days but Michelle Dang came in first place completing the 25kms in just one day and 18 hours! Kaleb Woudneh and David Lucaciu came in second and third places respectively also completing the challenge in under two days. A huge congratulations to these students for showing initiative and determination during a challenging time.
Student Council Staying Connected During Quarantine
Term 2 2020 has certainly been one to remember as we navigated unchartered waters, adapted to online learning and to social distancing. One of the challenges faced by our student leaders was connecting with their peers during social isolation.
Our leaders rose to the challenge ensuring their group remained connected during quarantine by calling, messaging and emailing. They made time to check in, set fun challenges, have conversations and share jokes and inspiration with both teachers and students. During such a difficult time these young people went above and beyond to ensure they showed kindness and compassion, even during their own time of stress. We are so proud of them - congratulations on leading our community with kindness.
Keep an eye out for our Corinda Leaders Bake-Off Challenge for the holidays!
Table Tennis Competition ‘The Golden Bat’
The inaugural ‘Golden Bat’ table tennis competition kicked off at Corinda this term with plenty of excitement and fun! Thanks to the addition of two permanent table tennis tables in the undercover area, all students have had the opportunity to claim table tennis fame and compete for their House.
The competition hosted over 150 players who were nominated to represent their Home Group. Competition started in a round robin format in week 9 with winners advancing to a knockout competition in week 10. The Grand Final is sure to be a spectacle and will be played in the final week of school. Juniors will see Radu (Bunar F) face off against Tristan (Yarraman M) and Seniors will see Kobe (Kabul K) take on Sean (Kabul D).
The standard has been very high and the competition has been fierce. Pirri House has claimed victory with 35 total points, narrowly defeating Kabul (34) and Dibbil (29).

School News
Picking up and dropping off students
Student safety is our number one priority during drop off and pick up times and we would like to remind our community of the parking restrictions surrounding the school. Parking restrictions assist with driver and student vision, supporting driver and pedestrian safety.
Please be mindful of the following traffic behaviours:
- Parking or stopping where there is a continuous yellow line painted along the edge of the road is an offence.
- Parking or stopping where there is a ‘no parking’ sign, is an offence, unless:
- You are dropping off, or picking up, passengers (you can stop for a maximum time of two minutes unless the sign states otherwise). - There are ‘no parking’ signs adjacent to the school concerning peak drop off and pick up time zones (for example, no parking 2-4pm).
- Pratten Street, on the school side, is a continual bus zone and parking in this zone is an offence. It is important to keep this area clear for easy bus access, safety of our students and to assist the flow of traffic.
Please be mindful of the residents in this area in relation to car noise, engine idling and ensuring resident’s driveways are clear.
The safety of everyone is important during these pick up and drop off times. As a community we need to support the traffic measures that have been put in place.
School Opinion Survey
Parents are invited to participate in this year’s School Opinion Survey and have a say about schooling during the COVID-19 lockdown. Participation in the survey is anonymous and you are encouraged to take this opportunity to have your say. The survey form has been designed so that it can be easily completed on a computer or smartphone. The online survey will be available until Friday, 17 July and should take less than five minutes to complete. Please contact the school if you have any questions about the survey.
