Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends
It was a welcomed relief to see the return of our year 7 – 10 students on Monday. Our school is alive again and our students have reunited with their friends and teachers. We are now faced with the complex challenge of competing with limited space in the grounds while we are undergoing construction. Our split timetable while posing some challenges with routine and times has provided an opportunity for students to utilise open spaces to allow for physical distancing.
Media Exposure
Corinda State High School was featured on Channel 10 news this week highlighting the innovative work that Chris Butcher is undertaking with his Agricultural class and QUT. This is an example of what we are addressing through our Strategic Plan – Future You. Our students are helping solve problems for the future. Congratulations Mr Butcher and your amazing students. A proud moment for Corinda.
Traffic Management
There are increasing concerns around traffic management at school drop off and pick up times. It seems there is an increase in parents driving students to school as a result of the pandemic and less students on public transport. This is completely understandable, however it is concerning to watch traffic movement and the risks that are being taken in the limited space outside the school. It is important that our young teenagers see adult drivers observing correct traffic rules and that people are being considerate of other drivers. This week we have had staff directing traffic so as to reduce congestion and frustration of drivers.
I ask all drivers to be more considerate of every other driver on the road and refrain from parking and/or dropping off in driveways, double parking or doing U turns where not permitted. Our young people need role models and we also need to protect their safety in the local area.
Your support and attention to this would be greatly appreciated by our local residents.
‘A’ Block Refurbishment
Below is an image of the completed A Block refurbishment, which will include three modern artists studios for our visual arts classes, linking to an outdoor creative space behind. Upstairs we will have an additional learning space.
P & C Association – Vacant Treasurer Position
The P & C Association is still looking for a willing parent to take up the position of treasurer on the P & C Executive. It is important that we are able to provide timely reports on the finances at monthly meetings and we would really appreciate someone being able to volunteer their time to support the important work of our P & C Association. If you are interested in taking up this position please contact Naomi Henry at the P & C email address: p&c.president@corindashs.eq.edu.au

Some of our best
Corinda siblings supporting Online Learning
We received a lovely email from Corinda State School this week and wanted to share it with our community:
"I am writing on behalf of the Corinda Primary staff to let you know of the exceptional service some of your students have provided. Many of our Primary students have older siblings who helped them with CSS Learning@Home. This would have required patience, dedication and a lot of juggling with their own learning needs. We know this as some of them were year 12s who returned to school last week! They have really epitomised ‘Corinda Cares’ and put others before themselves."
Thank you to the following students for their outstanding support and leadership:
- Zain Arshad
- Varsha Dass
- Ruth Ibanda
- Salma Sadoun
- Tahlia Butcher
- Zayd Al-Gharibeh
- Eva Simon
- Hassan El Gizoli
