Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends
It was great to see so many parents at the Year 7 Meet and Greet last week. It is a great way to connect with new parents and form new networks.
Air Conditioning Project
We currently have contractors in the school installing the Government funded air conditioners to complete our long awaited goal of air conditioning our classrooms. We have approximately 46 rooms to be completed in the coming weeks which will result in our whole school being air conditioned. There will be some disruptions in the weeks ahead as students are relocated to different rooms on the day air conditioning is being installed in their classroom. I am sure it will be worth it once completed.
Additional Classrooms
We have experienced a growth in enrolments this year due to the full six cohorts and the 2019 smaller cohort graduating. We are waiting on additional temporary classrooms to be delivered to address the shortage. We are very grateful to the P & C Association and School Council for their efforts in advocating for additional classrooms and a permanent facilities solution for the future.
Building Works
Over the coming months we will have some significant building works beginning which will mean disruption and some areas being temporarily relocated. The first of these will be the refurbishment of A Block to provide an additional innovative learning space and three contemporary Art Studios and outdoor learning. The exterior of A block will take on a very modern look. This will begin over the Easter break and is due to be completed by the end of term 2. Our Arts staff are very excited about the facilities they will be working in very soon!
The plans for the new three storey Resource Centre have just been signed off and this will be going out to tender this week. This will be an amazing state of the art facility for our school. This will include a maker space, digital media and technology spaces, research areas, study areas (small group collaboration and individual study) and a student concierge. As soon as plans become available we will make them accessible for viewing. It is hoped that this project will be completed by the end of this year ready for the 2021 school year.
This project will require some relocation as the old library is demolished to make way for the new building. We will keep everyone informed of movements with the aim of minimal disruption to learning while this is happening. What a wonderful 60th birthday present this will be for Corinda this year!
Semester Overviews / Assessment Planners
By now all students should have received a copy of the semester overview for each subject as well as an assessment planner which details proposed assessment for the semester. These two documents are important for family and individual organisation. If you need assistance unpacking or understanding these two documents please do not hesitate to contact a House Master or Subject Head of Department. It is always a good idea to transfer this information to a wall planner in the study or central location so that progress and preparation for assessment can be monitored as it approaches.
Coronavirus Update
Thank you to all our families for your support with the health warnings and procedures for preventing the spread of Coronavirus. The health warnings previously sent out to parents/carers are still current and we remain vigilant. All staff and students have returned to school following their isolation and we are actively promoting personal hygiene with staff and students.
The Queensland Health advice remains that persons who have completed the self-quarantine period of 14 days and show no symptoms of illness are eligible to return to work or school. If there is any doubt about the wellness of the staff or student, they should see their doctor.
Department of Education
If you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to contact the school administration.

Some of our best…
Corinda SHS Drumline
Congratulations to The Corinda Vanguard who made it to the Producer’s Audition stage of Australia’s Got Talent on Saturday. They were the only school group and drumline to be invited to this second round of auditions, and although the competition was fierce – cute dogs, clowns, ventriloquists, martial arts crews, Home and Away look-a-likes singing Ed Sheeran Covers – our students played exceptionally, and impressed the main producer with their choreography and light show. Well done Corinda Drummers!
Chinese Week
Today our Chinese week celebrations began with a Lion Dance. This week is an opportunity for students to experience other cultures through performances, cuisine and education. Our language weeks are always celebrated by students and are always welcomed by our students.
Football Excellence
Congratulations to 2 of our Football Excellence students Lukas Blahout and Isaac Green on being selected in the Australian Futsal team for their respective ages! Both have been invited to attend a tour to Italy in July!
Year 7 Parent Information Evening
We recently hosted our Year 7 meet and greet evening for parents, which was a great success for all involved. Parents had the opportunity to meet teachers, principals and house masters for their student. The night was catered by our year 7 Culinary Excellence Students, who were all highly commended for their fantastic efforts and food!
Gifted and Talented
Year 10 Honours
Year 9 & 10 Honours students competed last week in the QUT Science and Engineering Challenge. This challenge allows students to test their STEM skills against over 750 other students. The Challenge is highly effective in influencing students to study science and mathematics in their senior years and pursue science and engineering-related degrees. Congratulations to all of our students involved in the challenge!
