Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends
This week we farewell our year 10 and 11 students for the Christmas vacation. The second half of our year 10 cohort have been undertaking their active volunteering for the completion of their Certificate II in Active Volunteering. Our Merit Ceremony this Friday will acknowledge those students who have received Merit Awards and special Arts and Sports awards. We congratulate those students receiving awards for their hard work and efforts over the school year. The full list of recipients are listed in this newsletter.
We have had a week of positive news stories. Our initiative with the implementation of YONDR has received widespread media attention being profiled in the Courier Mail, 7 and 9 News, Triple M and Radio National. A very positive message put out and our students made us very proud. Corinda is leading the way with Digital Wellbeing!
Another great news story this week was the announcement that Corinda is one of the 261 schools that the Government is providing funding for air conditioning. We are very grateful for this funding and it means that our P & C can now achieve its goal much quicker and allow their funding to be redirected to other school investments.
Last Friday we announced the 2020 School Captains at the Graduation Ceremony. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate all students who applied for Leadership Positions. I congratulate and welcome our two new School Captains:
- Hannah Hall-Young
- Mariana Belandria Rebolledo
Congratulations also to our six new House Captains:
- Bunar – Tamika Martin
- Dibbil – Tabitha Potts
- Moori – Kayla Aukuso
- Kabul – Mading Magot
- Yarraman – Eeva Tampel
- Pirri – Holly Ward
Our Sports Captains 2020 are:
- Christina Amajouyi
- Selu Maama
I wish all our new leaders every success for their new positions for 2020.
Helen Jamieson

Corinda Cares
This week we had our last day of pancakes for Corinda Cares. Every week our Corinda Cares staff and students cook pancakes for all of our staff and students, with all funds donated to the Corinda Cares program. Students have enjoyed their weekly pancakes for breakfast each week and being served by the Corinda Cares team.
2019 STEM Girl Power Alumni Event
Our year 10 student, Jennifer Dang has recently participated in the 2019 STEM Girl Power Alumni Event. She represented Corinda State High School as a regional STEM Girl Power Ambassador.
The STEM Girl Power program encourages Year 10 girls from across Queensland to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
STEM is crucial in today’s world and Corinda State High School would like to congratulate Jennifer on her fantastic achievement! We look forward to seeing her continue to thrive in STEM as she continues through her senior schooling.
Remembrance Day
On 11 November at 11am our school stopped to acknowledge Remembrance Day and pay respect to those who have fought for Australia. We hosted a ceremony at school, led by our school leaders. They then continued to the local RSL to further pay their respects along with surrounding schools. Tristan Nutley, Anna Guevarra-Adams, Hannah Hall-Young, Mariana Belandrio and Ms Tracey Hall all attended the ceremony.

Student Departures
To assist with planning and timetable requirements for 2020, we ask that you advise our school if your student is NOT returning to Corinda State High School next year by Friday 6th December 2019.
Parents with students departing our school are required to complete a Departure Form advising of the destination school or education facility. Students are also required to complete a Clearance form ensuring that all school resources are returned before the last day of school 2019.
Should you have any queries on this matter, please contact our Administration on 3379 0222.

P&C News
Corinda SHS Parents and Citizens Association Air-Conditioning in Classrooms
With the recent hot weather, many students, teachers and parents have thanked the P&C who have installed air-conditioning in 60% of classrooms. Due to current Government initiatives to provide air-conditioning to schools in the Ipswich corridor, the P&C is delaying our roll out in classrooms in 2020. Please let us know if you are interested in helping us fundraise by contacting the P&C on: pandc@corindashs.eq.edu.au
Remember that we meet on the last Wednesday of each month. Meetings are held in the Paradox Room starting at 7:00pm. Refreshments including cheese, biscuits and wine are provided. All are welcome to attend.

Online Safety
The online world is a vast place and it can be difficult keeping up with your student. The office of the eSafety Commissioner has an excellent online resource providing advice for parents and carers to help children have safe experiences online. Please visit the website for more information
The eSafety Commissioner has also provided an online safety guide for parents and carers.
UQ Triple P Program
Every day, thousands of Australian children suffer the effects of eczema, and families struggle with managing eczema and children’s behavioural and emotional adjustment.
Positive Parenting for Healthy Living is an adaptation of the successful Triple P - Positive Parenting Program, offering practical ideas and support for parents of children with eczema. This innovative group program is designed to help parents manage their child’s eczema more easily, help children cope with their eczema and emotions, prevent and manage difficult child behaviour, and reduce the impact of eczema on families.
Over the next few months, parents of 2-10 year old children with eczema in the greater Brisbane area are able to access Positive Parenting for Healthy Living Triple P free of charge as part of a research project through the University of Queensland and the Queensland Children’s Hospital. For more information, please visit us online or contact Dr Amy Mitchell on (07) 3346 1202, or email healthyliving@uq.edu.au.
