Executive Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Friends,
What a busy week we had last week with Year 11 Leadership Days, Brisbane Exhibition Performance and participation, and our Strategic Planning forums. Congratulations to our Drumline who really impressed everyone at the Ekka with their performance. They have worked so hard to develop their skills while marching with heavy equipment and this was well noted by other participating schools. Our students made us very proud.
The Sheep team excelled themselves this year with their standards and the way in which they embraced their responsibility for the animals. I was so impressed with how they conducted themselves and presented their display and animals.
Last week we conducted two student forums to gain input from students on the development of our new Strategic Plan 2020 – 2024. I was so impressed with the information that our students put forward and with the way in which they embraced this opportunity. Their input was very inspiring and delivered in such a mature way. This is very valuable.
Thank you to the parents who attended our Parent Forum. In addition to this we sent out an email with some questions for those parents who were unable to attend on the evening. Your input is very much appreciated and we will be processing all the data gathered from the forums to identify our main priorities for the next four years.
YONDR
As you are aware our school community has now been informed of our decision to implement strategies to support our Mobile Device Policy here at Corinda. Just a reminder that a special Parent Information evening has been organised for Thursday 5 September at 5.30 pm. We will also be providing further information about Family Zone and how you can embrace this in the home as well. We believe both these strategies will have a significant impact on student learning and when parents and schools work together the impact can be even more effective.
I sincerely do believe that these strategies are in the best interests of our young people and their wellbeing. This is supported by a book that was recommended to me by another parent which I would encourage all parents to read – “Teen Brain” by David Gillespie. I can assure you this is money well spent – available at K Mart, Dymocks and Angus & Robertson. Would love to hear your feedback on this.
Year 12 QCS
Our year 12 students are well and truly ready for their QCS test, which will be conducted on 3 and 4 September. This will be the last QCS test for Corinda so our year 12 students will be the final cohort to sit this test. The first cohort to experience Prep and the last cohort to sit QCS! Our Year 12 students are legends and I know they will make us very proud!

Some of our best…
EKKA Sheep team
Last week some of our Agriculture students and staff participated in the EKKA Sheep showing. Our students and staff did a fantastic job and were rewarded for their efforts! They were awarded 3rd place for Tidy pens and got into the final of the Junior Judging out of 400 kids. Our students were also visited by Federal Minister for Agriculture, Hon Bridget McKenzie and discussed everything Agriculture.
A big thank you to our staff Mr Pilkington, Mr Bates, Ms Proud, Mr Butcher and Lucas Abell for their commitment to our farm and sheep team. Congratulations to our students, this is an amazing achievement and we are so proud of their effort.
EKKA Drumline Performance
Congratulations to CSHS Drumline for your fantastic performance at the EKKA on Thursday. Our student drummers represented the school with pride and made a statement to the public! Our students’ skills have been advancing under Mr Hicks and they are able to carry the heavy equipment and play for 40 minutes in the hot sun! A real achievement to perform at the EKKA and to show off their abilities as a marching band which rivalled some of the adult bands!
Future Farming
Recently, two of our year 9 students Arpa and Anjolina presented their research on future farming to a distinguished panel of experts at the QASMT Cafe Scientifique event. They explained the importance of thinking scientifically and acting with future sustainability at the heart of decision making. Well done to the girls who worked independently on their experiment and gave a strong and confident presentation to a large audience.
Senior Winter Gala Day
Well done to all of our teams that participated in the recent Senior Winter Gala Day. Special congratulations to our Open Girls Netball, Open Boys Football and Year 10 Boys Football who were crowned West Brisbane Premiers! These three teams will join eight other Corinda teams in the first round of the Met Finals next week. Well done and good luck to all of our teams in the finals.
Beenleigh Eisteddfod
Congratulations to all of our students who competed at the Beenleigh Eisteddfod. Our junior students received fantastic results including four 2nd place awards and two highly commended.
Our senior students continued the success into the afternoon with two 1st place awards.
Full results are available on our Facebook page.

Write that Essay
At Corinda SHS, we are committed to improving students’ writing, as we have identified this as a key priority. Term 3 will see the continued implementation of Write That Essay strategies. Students will continue to learn about different sentence and paragraph types that they can incorporate into their writing, across a number of subjects. This is the great thing about the Write That Essay program: the skills are transferrable across subjects, text types and assessment pieces. With the development of their writing skills, students will gain confidence and competence – a winning combination!
Don’t forget that you can check out the Write That Essay website for more information about this program.

P&C News
This is a quick reminder that our next P and C Meeting is on Wednesday 28th August in the Paradox Room, 7pm. We would love to see an increase in parent involvement and memberships at this meeting.
Did you know that the P and C manages the Uniform Shop and oversees the tuckshop?
The profits made from the sale of uniforms and food has been put back into improving the school environment for all. These funds have allowed us to purchase many of the air conditioning units for the school. We want to make summer more comfortable for all at Corinda State High School and we would like to be able to purchase the remaining much needed air conditioning systems as soon as possible. We are grateful of donations we have already received for this project. We are looking to gradually expand our fundraising activities and we need more parent volunteers to meet our goals. If you have fundraising ideas or would like to contribute in some small way to our efforts we would be very appreciative. We are having a meeting at the school (Paradox Room 6:00pm) on Thursday 22nd to brainstorm ideas if you have the time to come along.
Love to see some new faces at our next P and C meeting!!!
