Executive Principals Report
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to term 2 and I hope you all had a restful and relaxing Easter break.
The new school term has begun and our year 11 students are already undertaking assessment as their units of study have a very different set of calendar requirements. They have managed this new reform admirably and are to be congratulated on successfully conducting their studies this year. It was great to see so many parents of year 11 students take up the opportunity to attend the parent teacher student feedback evening this week to gain a better understanding of course requirements and how their students are progressing.
Parent teacher interviews were held this week as an opportunity to discuss feedback on student progress and engagement. Based on previous feedback, we extended our meeting times to allow for more meaningful discussion. Parents appreciated the extra time and commented that a 15 minute timeframe was sufficient. We have taken this feedback on board and will implement this adjustment for future parent teacher interviews. It was great to see so many parents attend this week.
Just a reminder if you were unable to secure interviews this week, you are welcome to contact the school and arrange alternate interviews at a time that is mutually convenient.
ANZAC Day Ceremonies
Our students made us very proud last week as we conducted three separate services in the Sports Centre to pay our respects to those lost to war and to commemorate the meaning of ANZAC day. We had the largest number of student Cadets present in uniform to assist with the ceremony and they undertook their roles admirably. Our student leaders conducted a very moving ceremony and our Symphonic Band was very impressive. Special mention must go to Cooper Benz, who played the Last Post and “The Rouse” on trumpet. Cooper has been performing this for some years now and this being his final year at high school, deserves special mention. His performance was commendable once again!
A big thank you also to our student leaders who joined Tracey Hall, Andrew Noble and myself at the ANZAC Day dawn service at the Sherwood-Indooroopilly RSL. Our students represented our school with great pride and respect for this very important service.
Building Program
Our new Library and Innovation Centre is starting to take shape as we are shaping up concept plans. We are so excited at what the Architects are proposing and hope to have some detailed plans to share in the coming weeks. Our School Council will be playing a significant role in the planning meetings over the coming months as we finalise details and ensure we are getting the most from this significant funding.
Along with new buildings come some disruptions and we are working on minimising this as best we can. The demolition of A Block will be commencing very soon and all classes will be relocated in a timely manner to ensure that there is no disruption to student learning.
Following the completion of the new building which will include Library, Technology Centre, Student Services, Uniform Shop, Music Rooms and Art Studios we will also be upgrading the old hall to create a 500 seat auditorium. The windows will be enclosed to create a soundproof presentation centre fully air conditioned with partial platform seating. This will be much more practical for performances and special year level presentations and tutorials.
More on this as we finalise plans. Exciting times ahead!
Helen Jamieson
Executive Principal
A reminder for parents to be aware of students’ online activity.

Some of our best…
Voices of Birralee
Two of our students, Charlie McBride and Cameron Badman have just concluded an incredible ANZAC tour as members of Voices of Birralee. Voices of Birralee is a Brisbane youth choral organisation, who sent 71 of its members on a European tour with a special ANZAC Day performance at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonnoux in France.
The tour began with a performance in Brisbane on the 31st of March, after which they performed in Croatia, Austria, France and Italy. This tour is an incredible achievement and Corinda SHS is so proud of our students for taking this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Our students were able to take part in an amazing experience, remember those whose family members have served and to connect with such an important part of Australian history.
We are so proud of Charlie and Cameron and commend them on their fantastic performances, incredible talents and their dedication to Australian history.

Met West – Swimming
Congratulations to Harriett Bridge, one of our year 7 students, for representing Met West School sport in term 1! She competed in the 10-12 years age group for swimming. This an amazing achievement for Harriett and we wish her success for future competitions.
ANZAC Day
Corinda State High School held an ANZAC Commemorative Service on Wednesday 24 April. Our students laid wreathes with messages from each house. These wreathes were then laid at the Corinda Dawn Service by our Senior Captains and Leaders. Executive Principal Helen Jamieson, accompanied by Deputy Principals Tracey Hall and Andrew Noble joined our students to pay their respects.
We are so proud to have our students so highly respected among the local community and their leadership recognised by our own local leaders. Jess Pugh noted our students’ presence and recognised their leadership.
Lest we forget.

Corinda State high was included in the Department of Education – Renewing our School Upgrade program. Our school was one of the 17 schools that will be sharing $235M of funds that will deliver both new and refurbished modern learning facilities for our school.
The school council and Ms Jamieson are working with the appointed architects on the concept plans for a new building in the school (replacement of A Block) that will include a new resource centre, music rooms, IT areas and much more. The program will also include the refurbishment of the assembly hall with tiered seating, air conditioning, and anything else we can get for our funding.
