Executive Principals Report
Dear Parents and Friends
It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers engage in the recent Parent Teacher interviews. I do hope you found them beneficial and informative. Just a reminder, if you felt you did not have enough time to discuss your child’s progress you are able to make interview bookings outside of this process. Please do not hesitate to contact teachers to organise a suitable time to meet if you feel you need to follow up. Email addresses are available from the school’s website or you may contact administration. We are only too happy to assist.
Anzac ceremonies
Leaders with Superintendent Mark Plath
I felt an immense sense of pride as I attended our school Anzac Services and the Dawn Service at Corinda where I observed the high standards and respect that our students presented. The school services were primarily organised by our Student Leaders and they took their roles very seriously. They then were determined to represent our school at the Dawn Service at Corinda. This is exemplary leadership and I congratulate those students who made the effort to rise very early and present in full school uniform. Our presence was noted.
As a school community our student body also demonstrated an enormous level of respect in the presence of our local Politicians and representatives from the Sherwood Indooroopilly RSL. I congratulate our students on the way in which they conducted themselves. Our services were very special. I would also like to acknowledge our Instrumental students who prepared for the ceremonies and the two students – Cooper Benz and Miranda Lee who played the Last Post and Reveille.
I congratulate also our students who represented their local Cadet units and made up the Catafalque party both at school and at the Dawn Service. Very impressive and what outstanding role models you are to your community.
All aboard – the road to success!
I am pleased to announce the arrival of our new school bus. With the help of a special grant to support student pathways we have purchased a 12 seater Toyota minibus to enable us to transport students to training venues, camps, special programs and sporting venues. This will be a great resource which will be accessible to all staff in our school. Keep an eye out for it in our community – you certainly cannot miss it in the traffic!
Student art work at GOMA
The Creative Generation Art Excellence Exhibition is currently on display at GOMA, and there are two works from our students on display out of a total of 33 student art works – 520 entries were submitted across the state. Our student works have now been selected to be exhibited 4 years in a row – only four other schools in Queensland have achieved this. A big congratulation to Pam Leech for her hard work and dedication in driving the students in their bodies of work and putting Corinda on the map for Visual Art Excellence in Queensland.

ReachOut Parents Coaching
Free, online coaching for parents of teenagers
Parenting teenagers can be tough. However, no one needs to handle it alone.
The ReachOut Parents Coaching Program provides parents and carers of 12-18 year olds with free one-on-one coaching online with Benevolent Society coaches.
Parents and carers may be concerned about their relationship with their teenager, or their teenager’s behaviour or wellbeing.
Through a digital interface , Benevolent Society coaches help parents identify what they want to achieve through the program. Parents and coaches work together to develop a plan after each session with effective parenting tools, strategies and resources.
After providing support to young people for 18 years, ReachOut launched the Parents Service in recognition that parents play a pivotal role in the mental health of their teenagers.
ReachOut Parents Coaching is funded by the Department of Social Services. Find out more and visit the site here.

Sport News
A big congratulations to our Year 7 Boys Touch, Year 8/9 Boys Volleyball, Year 7 Girls Tennis, Year 7 Boys Tennis, Year 8/9 Boys Tennis and Year 8/9 Girls Tennis teams who were named the West Brisbane District Champions at Junior Summer Gala Day.
We had 18 of our students recently selected in their respective QLD futsal team, with a number of our higher performing player’s unfortunately missing selection. National Titles are due to take place in the September school holidays and attendance at these is solely up to individual players and parents – we understand the significant cost involved in attending. Congratulations to our Under 12 Boys, Under 13 Boys, and Under 14 Boys Futsal teams who were also successful in qualifying for the QLD ‘Champion of Champions’ tournament in late July (Term 3).

Year 7 Science and Mathematics Excellence Class
On 24 March, approximately 30 students from the Year 7 Science and Mathematics Excellence Class were given the opportunity to participate in the World Science Festival while it was in Brisbane between the 21st and 26th of March. As a part of the festival, the Brisbane City Council (BCC) hosted events for school students. The year 7s endeavoured to link in with the festivities through a live steam event. However, technical issues at the BCC end prevented this from happening to its fullest potential. Mr Prout did not let this dampen the student’s spirits for the day, and managed to continue with the activities from the Resource Pack that was kindly arranged by the BCC.
Each group of 5 students was given a unique design scenario which involved a water crisis in the year 2100. Using research materials and information cards, students were tasked with solving problems such as rising sea levels, severe water shortage and even mining water from space! Students had to think what life would be like for someone in 2100, and what water would mean to them in their given scenario.
Students then presented their solutions to the class and engaged in discussions regarding the major problems surrounding their given design scenarios. Some interesting solutions included; using genetically modified food which can grow using less water, and a space mission to Jupiter to mine the moon Calisto for water supplies.
What a challenging and exciting experience for our Year 7 Mathematics and Science Excellence class.
