Deputy Principal's Address

At Corinda SHS we pride ourselves on our culture and sense of belonging. Last week, we saw how this continues to thrive well after you graduate when we hosted the 40-year Alumni Reunion.  It was great to have the members of the class come together on Saturday and reflect fondly about their time at Corinda.  The Class of 1985 enjoyed a tour of the school, Smart Farm and some time to tell stories and connect with old friends in the Station Master's House. Thank you to our Business Manager, Angela Dolores for working closely with the Class of 1985 to make this memorable event possible - the first of many that we hope to support.

In my role of Deputy Principal, I am leading the review and focus on what culture looks like for the school, students, staff, parents and community. Spearheading this is the work of our House Masters with our Six Houses, One Family motto. This semester, we are collaborating with Steve Francis on our 2026 House alignment, exploring ways to strengthen both student and staff sense of belonging to their House and school, drawing inspiration from the work of Doug Fisher.

One of our goals in working on school culture is to refine our communication across all aspects of the school so that it is informative, individualised and timely - with standard frameworks to assist with ease of conveying messages and important information. All of this supports our Annual Implementation Plan and Strategic Plan focus areas - Thriving Culture and Unified Collective.

Alumni Reunion - Class of 1985

In Week 3, we supported Brisbane Youth Service with Pirri and Bunar’s Daggy Jumper Day. Lots of students joined in this year by wearing some truly daggy jumpers alongside their teachers. Special mention to the House Master’s who had us all confused on the day by wearing each other’s faces on their jumpers. The money raised for Daggy Jumper Day goes to Brisbane Youth Service because every young person deserves a safe place to call home and the opportunity to thrive. Please read the newsletter further for a full story.

In Week 4, our students came together in their Houses to compete for points in the Moori Hexathlon event. The students endured different stages, all related to their House mascot. A Year 9 student shared their experience saying: “Our recent House event was filled with energy, and a great turnout from all students. Each House took part in a fun, themed activity designed to reflect their unique identity and more importantly, just to have a laugh and be a little silly! The event was a light-hearted celebration of House spirit and teamwork, that left our six Houses united into one family”.

Since the last newsletter, we have had lots of our school teams successfully represent Corinda SHS at various interschool competitions including Senior Winter Gala Day. Also, congratulations to our CBSQ basketballers on their success at the four-day CBSQ Shield Tournament and to our Year 7 Debating teams for their impressive achievement of reaching the second round of the QDU Debating Competition Finals. This impressive group of debating students (and coaches) won repeatedly throughout their season, making it all the way to the Finals in their first year.

We’ve had a fantastic start to the Semester, and I’m excited for the incredible events ahead and the many achievements our students will celebrate this Term!

Kind regards,
Andrew Noble
Deputy Principal - Year 7 & 10

Some of our best

Scoring big at Senior Winter Gala Day

In Week 3, some of our students proudly represented Corinda SHS at the Senior Winter Gala Day. It was a fantastic day filled with teamwork, friendly competition, and school pride. A special congratulations goes to Opens Netball, Opens Badminton and Year 10 Netball for going undefeated on their courts and winning first place overall in the competition. We also acknowledge the outstanding results of our Year 10 Girls AFL, Boys Badminton for placing second and our Year 10 Boys Basketball and AFL for placing third. Well done to all students who represented the school with enthusiasm and integrity!

Corinda's future Socceroo and Matilda in the making

We are proud to recognise two standout Elite Athlete Program students from our Football Excellence Program. Year 10 student Jesse N and Year 11 student Rani S recently represented Corinda SHS at a national level. Jesse represented in the Future Subway Socceroos Championships during the June/July school holidays, where he was honoured with the role of team captain. Jesse demonstrated exceptional leadership and talent throughout the tournament. Rani competed in the Emerging Matildas Championships, returning with a 3rd place medal. Her team delivered an outstanding performance throughout the week-long tournament, advancing to the semi-finals against strong teams.

We congratulate both Rani and Jesse on these remarkable achievements and look forward to seeing their continued growth in their football careers.

Rani S - Year 11

Daggy Jumper Day makes a big impact

Corinda SHS was proud to support Brisbane Youth Service for their annual Daggy Jumper Day fundraiser. This important initiative helps raise funds to provide vital support to young people experiencing homelessness in Brisbane. An important fundraiser our school is proud to take part in because we understand that many young people face greater barriers to learning, staying healthy, building relationships, and reaching their goals. We want to be part of creating change within our community.

Students and staff embraced the spirit of the day, by dressing in their daggiest jumpers and coming together for a cause that matters. A delicious pancake breakfast kicked off the morning, with all proceeds donated directly to Brisbane Youth Service. During break time, students and staff took to the stage for a Daggy Jumper fashion catwalk, all in good fun and for a great cause. We’re proud of the generosity and enthusiasm shown by our school community.

Celebrating our music student's success

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Year 11 student Joyce K, who has been selected for the highly prestigious Australian Honours Ensemble Program. An exceptional achievement, with only a small number of students chosen from a competitive field of 695 auditionees nationwide. This is an extraordinary accomplishment, and we congratulate Joyce for representing Corinda SHS with such excellence on a national stage. Well done, Joyce!

Recognising the value of our INTAD faculty

Our INTAD faculty was recently represented at the annual Battle of the Bridges competition hosted by St John’s Anglican College. Our Year 8 Engineering, Design and Technology students scored some outstanding achievements on the day.

Our students took on the challenge of testing more than 70 bridge designs, applying the foundational skills developed in the classroom. A big congratulations to Leiko P and Helen A, who placed third in the All-Rounder category, to Dhilon H, Edison L, Joseph N, and Eli G for receiving the Design & Engineering Technology Award, and to Riley G for being recognised with the Encouragement Award. Congratulations to our incredible INTAD students!
