Deputy Principal's Address

Dear Parents and carers,
I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to you all. Returning to the Corinda community has been incredibly meaningful, and I am truly grateful for the warm welcome and the opportunity to give back to the school that helped shape who I am. The sense of belonging and shared purpose within Corinda is truly special, and I am eager for the year, and possibilities, that lie ahead.
It has been a dynamic start to the year, filled with celebrations, camps, and events that highlight our strong connections and excellence across many fields. Two of the standout moments have been the Academic Awards of Excellence and Merit Award ceremonies. Congratulating so many hardworking and talented students, celebrating the achievements of our Year 13 graduates, and witnessing the outstanding outcomes that define Corinda as a leader in academic excellence was truly inspiring. These ceremonies are a testament to the dedication of our students, staff, and families, and it was rewarding to see their efforts recognised.
At the Academic Awards of Excellence, we also officially launched our 2025 theme: A Galaxy of Possibilities. This theme embodies our ambition to reach new heights in learning, excellence, and innovation. As a school community, we are committed to exceeding expectations and boldly exploring new opportunities, fostering an environment where every student can unlock their limitless potential.

2025 School Captains Asmaa and Dhairya launch the 2025 school theme: A Galaxy of Possibilities, followed by a dazzling space-inspired dance performance at the Academic Awards of Excellence
Over the last few weeks, our Year 7 and Year 11 students embarked on their respective camps, with Year 7 heading to PGL Kindilan in Redland Bay, and Year 11 travelling to Camp Cooby in Toowoomba. These experiences were invaluable in fostering new friendships, developing leadership skills, and creating lifelong memories. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff for volunteering their time to ensure these camps ran smoothly, and special thanks to Mr Pilkington and Mr Kelman for their coordination and organisation.
In Week 3, we also had the joy of celebrating Love Week, culminating in a fantastic Valentine’s Day on Friday and seeing students engage in the Roses for Rosies initiative to support one of our partner charities. Love Week saw student-led concerts in our Assembly Hall, serenades for students and staff, and a wonderful display of kindness, appreciation, and community spirit. It was heartening to see students and staff embrace the opportunity to spread love and positivity throughout the school and to take the time to connect with one another.

As we continue through Term 1 and beyond, I look forward to working alongside our students, staff, and families to ensure that 2025 is a year of remarkable achievements and boundless opportunities, not only for today but for tomorrow also.
Thank you for your ongoing support - I am proud to be part of our vibrant and thriving school community.
Warm regards,
Joshua Batty
Deputy Principal - Year 7 & 10

Acknowledging our dedicated Smart Farm students
We recognised the next generation of dedicated Smart Farm students at our annual Farm Badging Ceremony! Executive Principal Ross Bailey proudly presented cattle, sheep, and poultry badges to our fresh new faces at the farm, recognising their commitment to caring for our animals and helping keep the farm running.
Ross was joined by key members of our farm community - Ms Engler, Mr Butcher, Mr Abell, Mr Bateson and Dr Bruce McIntosh - who each shared words of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our student volunteers.
A special acknowledgment was given to Dr Bruce for the invaluable time and wisdom he continues to share with our students. His mentorship has guided many aspiring young minds, including alumni Mitchell M and Freya C, who have gone on to study veterinary science. Congratulations to all our newly badged students! We can’t wait to see you grow and thrive on the farm.

A wonderful week spreading love and positivity!
Love Week was a wonderful success, filled with excitement and good vibes! The Student Council kicked off the week with a pink pancake sale and fun lunchtime serenades which brought laughter and smiles to all. Throughout the week, students had the chance to buy roses, chocolates, and lollipops, while also enjoying the photo booth that was set up on Thursday and Friday. Love Week was fantastic way to spread love and positivity around the school!

Year 7’s epic adventure at PGL Kindilan
What an amazing adventure our Year 7 students had at PGL Kindilan! From bush skills to archery, flying fox to canoeing, raft building to abseiling, and so much more, they embraced each activity with enthusiasm and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones.
The PGL staff complimented how engaged, positive, and hardworking our students were throughout the camp. Their energy, teamwork, and determination were wonderful to watch as they supported one another. A huge shoutout to our Year 7s for their fantastic effort and spirit – this camp will definitely be one to remember!

Students excel in START QUT program
A huge congratulations to our incredible Year 12 students, Cara, Sannah and Leyna, for successfully completing a university subject during their school studies last year through the START QUT program. Cara and Sannah excelled in Understanding the Internet and Data (CYB116), immersing themselves in the world of technology and data, while Leyna tackled Communication for Health Professionals (PYB007), gaining invaluable skills for her future.
In Semester 2 of 2024, our students travelled to QUT (Queensland University of Technology), Kelvin Grove campus, one day a week to complete their courses. They were diligent in keeping up with their schoolwork, ensuring they stayed on top of the other subjects they missed while studying at university. By completing these university courses, they’ve gained a head start for when they transition to university next year.
Best of luck to Cara and Sannah as you complete another START QUT university subject this semester. We are incredibly proud of what you’ve all achieved, and this is just the beginning of even greater things to come! Finally, a big thank you to Ms Voznaks, Head of Senior Schooling, for facilitating this fantastic opportunity and supporting our students in reaching this milestone.

Honouring student achievements at Merit Award ceremonies
We gathered to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students at the Merit Award Ceremonies! We recognised students who earned an outstanding GPA of 4.8 or higher in 2024, acknowledging their commitment to both excellence in effort and exemplary behaviour in the classroom. Congratulations to all the fantastic students who continue to exceed expectations, not just in their studies, but in making a positive contribution to our school community.
A big thank you to our sponsors The Lion Richlands, Bailey Print Group and Harcourts Marketplace for attending and presenting the awards. Our students were also inspired by the words of our Executive Principal, Mr Bailey, along with our Deputy Principals, Mr Batty and Mr Crausaz, Deans Mr Kelman and Mr Pilkington and Guidance Officers Ms Riley and Ms Black, who all played an important role in making the event such a success.

Year 12 student accepted into prestigious SPARQ-ed program
Congratulations to Year 12 student Sarah H who has been accepted into the prestigious 2025 SPARQ-ed Senior Research Immersion Program. SPARQ-ed is a biomedical education program at the Translational Research Institute, where students gain hands-on lab experience, working with scientists on real research projects over five days.
Sarah is excited to work alongside real scientists and learn more about how a lab setting works. “I'm quite interested in public health, virology, and epidemiology, so everything about this program is quite exciting to me,” she said.
At Corinda, Sarah’s studies in Biology have fuelled her passion for medical science, particularly in genetic research and disease prevention. She secured her place in the program through a rigorous application process, showcasing her epidemiology research journal, her Certificate II in Sampling & Measurement, and a recommendation from her Biology teacher, Mr Dickson (pictured with Sarah below). The SPARQ-ed program is a perfect launchpad towards Sarah’s goal of becoming an epidemiologist, with plans to study biomedical science, public health, and microbiology before pursuing a Master’s in Epidemiology. Congratulations Sarah!
